Olawale Ibrahim Ashimi, born May 9, 1986, Known professionally as Brymo, is a popular Nigerian singer, songwriter, performer and author. He began singing and recording songs in 1999 while he was still in secondary school. Brymo was noticed by Chocolate City and got signed to the label in 2010, but left the label in 2013, after reportedly breaching the contract agreement.
Early Life and Education
Brymo is the only child of his parents, who are a carpenter from the Awori tribe and a small-time merchant from the Egun. He was born and raised in Okokomaiko, Ojo, Lagos State.
Brymo was raised in a multi-faith home and, after enrolling in an Islamic school, learned how to recite the complete Qur’an. He attended Aganju Aka Primary School before transferring to Japual Primary School.
Brymo was a very unruly child who frequently got into conflicts with other kids from his neighborhood. After finishing secondary school, he was initially drawn to playing football.
While still in high school, he recorded his debut song in 1999, which he called “Future.” The Aliens was a band that Brymo and a few of his buddies started in 2002. The group experienced issues between 2004 and 2005, and they broke up in that year.
Hearing his mother sing fuji songs gave Brymo the idea to start writing music. Brymo was accepted to study biology at Lagos State University (LASU), but he left after his second year to pursue a career in music.

In 2007, Brymo issued Brymstone, his first studio album. A music video was released to go along with its first single, “Shawty.” He sited R. Kelly and the Backstreet Boys music influence on his decision to pursue R&B.

In 2010, Brymo got signed with Chocolate City after speaking with M.I. Abaga. He co-wrote the song “Love You” with Jesse Jagz before signing a record deal with Chocolate City; it was included on the rapper’s first studio album, Jag of All Tradez in released in 2011.
On November 15, 2012, Brymo released The Son of a Kapenta, his second studio album. Jesse Jagz, Pryse, M.I. Abaga, Ice Prince, and Efya make guest appearances on it.
Both English and Yoruba were used to record the album. The album’s lead track, “Ara,” which was created by Legendary Beatz, was made available by Brymo on September 18. Aje Filmworks directed its music video, which was made available on December 31, 2011.
On October 20, 2013, Brymo released his third studio album, Merchants, Dealers & Slaves. David plays guitar on the record, which Mikky Me produced. The album’s physical release date was March 26, 2014.
Brymo posted the album’s tracklist on Instagram on October 18, 2013. On October 1, 2013, the album’s lead single, “Down,” had its formal release; the day before, the song’s music video was posted to YouTube. The song was written in honor of Brymo’s nation and family.
Brymo tweeted in May 2013 that he has left Chocolate City. At a press conference held at Chocolate City’s office in Lekki, Audu Maikori, who was the label’s CEO at the time, denied Brymo’s assertions.
Brymo still needed to make two albums and had three more years left on his contract, according to Maikori.
When Brymo refused to take down an offensive photo he uploaded on Instagram, according to Maikori, he engaged in an act of insubordination.
In a June 2013 interview with media, Brymo said that Chocolate City had betrayed him by failing to explain how his second studio album had been leaked.
Additionally, he claimed that there was no accountability for the way his record was promoted and sold.
